We have talked about how good causes can move crowds so easy, human beings are so unpredictable when they are in a crowd, and trying to find an algorithm for people’s behavior on social media is a never ending story due to the immediate power that they can reach in a few minutes
Each day new platforms are launching with the only purpose to connect people, good causes can move crowds and you should never underrate the power that crowds have. For entrepreneurs is getting easier to start a business or develop an idea thanks to crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter, GoFundme, or IndieGoGo. In this platforms, someone exposes his projects and causes and people who like the idea can donate money to develop the project.
You might have heard the story of Zack Brown, an American man who decided to create his own campaign on Kickstarter as a joke just to see what was it about. He wrote there, that he wanted $10 to learn how to make a potato salad. Surprisingly when he received more than that, the first $200 he couldn’t believe it, he even said that it was way too much than what he expected and at the end, he received $55,492 from total strangers who were supporting his joke. The end of the story? He donated most of the money for charity causes and gave a party for all the internet people (or that’s what he says) who were close to his city.
He was as impressed as we are, but one thing is for sure, you never know what people will support or reject on social media.
A bold point here is the reason why people supported his idea, was it because it was funny? or because he will use it for charity? Maybe, but the connection he created with the audience is the most interesting thing, how come that all these people decided to fund his joke? Because they felt empathy with him, and that’s what branding does, it creates connections and empathy everywhere.
Create a connection with your audience, and try to find a way to see how much they support you, do your own potato salad, do #BRAIN_DING!
Let’s do #BRAIN_DING!
