Before the world became 2.0 (digital world), we use to think that start a business was something very expensive, and if we didn’t have the money we would just give up without knowing that out there’s a whole world who might like our idea and would support to fund it.
Entrepreneurs are opting for platforms like Kickstarter, GoFundMe or IndieGoGo, why? Because these are crowdfunding platforms and gives them the connection they need to keep their projects running. When you donate to a project you’re showing how much you would like to see the idea turned into a real finished project.
These platforms are perfect for stimulating empathy for teamwork. Since we are kids are taught that the only way to get things done is if we work hard with a team that helps us to upgrade and evolve. Now, thanks to social media, we’ve discovered that is so easy to find that team to share stories and get support.
Now you might be wondering, how this social media platforms are related to teamwork? Easy, when we have an idea and we get support from others, both parts are cooperating to make it happen as a team. The main idea of this platforms is to let entrepreneurs expose their ideas and find people interested in co-operating to make them happen by investing whatever they can. Basically, it’s asking for money to make things happen.
The act of asking for money to make your project really can be called “the art of asking”, this term was created by Amanda Palmer, a young artist who found that if you ask, then you might receive. As an artist, with her street performance (she use to dress as a 10ft tall bride and ask for money) she discovered the kind of connection she could have with people, that’s when she thought of the art of asking, asking for money, asking for support, asking for help and how could be also used in social media. At the same time she was performing on streets she started her own music band and she asked for a couch in someone’s house so the band could have a performance in that city and incredibly there was a bunch of strangers who offered their couches (couch surfing) for her and her band, of course, all the trust that people give them was returned back. She started her on Kickstarter campaign, (which had the biggest crowdfunding impact for a campaign) to launch her band’s next album, she was asking only for a thousand dollars, but thanks to all the connections she created with people as an artist, she received 1, 192, 793, crazy, right? This is exactly the teamwork we are talking about, how people donated 1, 192, 793 instead of 1,000 just to make the launch of the album possible through online support in social media. Today start a business or develop an idea is not so expensive as a few decades ago.
Crowdfunding platforms are redefining the way we ask and fund, showing how easy it is to connect with different causes and activating people to take action.
Asking for things to happen is not wrong, if you have an idea don’t be afraid to start a crowdfunding campaign because we need more people with this hope and wish to change the world, and now with crowdfunding platforms, you can be unstoppable.
Practice the art of asking, inspire others with your ideas, let’s change the world, let’s do #BRAIN_DING.
